Volunteer opportunities are available for both adults and youth at the shelter, mall store or our non-profit support groups. All volunteers must attend an orientation prior to volunteering at the shelter. Orientation is offered on the last Thursday of the month at 6pm, and anyone less than 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian attend with them. Consent forms must be on file before volunteering.
Many adults volunteer whenever they are available. Opportunities are available to assist adopters and owners looking for lost pets, animal care, adoption followups, photo specialists, transport assistants, mall volunteers, and programs sponsored by the Floyd County Animal Rescue.
Youth 4 Paws PM
This is an afterschool program for youth at least 12 years of age. This program is geared especially for those wanting to volunteer only a few hours, or those that have a few hours weekly after school. Volunteers in this program will be doing minimal animal care, housekeeping and showing potential adopter’s pets. Most volunteers in this program work from 3-4:45pm, and no more than 3 can scheduled at a time.
Youth 4 Paws Partners
This program is for volunteers that are at least 14 years old. Volunteers in this program are critical in providing assistance on Saturdays, our busiest day for adoptions. This program requires a more serious commitment level, and develops leadership, customer service, and basic animal care skills. Students in this program can also volunteer on weekdays, during breaks, and summer vacation.
